Joshua's 5th Birthday - the First Half

Joshua's fifth birthday was on Sunday, September 18, 2011. It was by far one of the best days we've had as a family in a long time. We all had a blast, and I praise God for giving us a wonderful day together to celebrate our oldest son and his special "Big Number 5" day!
We started off Joshua's birthday at his favorite "King Burger" where we bought him pancakes and french toast sticks to eat. The boys LOVE the crowns, and I think they look super cute in them!
Joshua's hands were sticky when he was done, but both boys scarfed down their breakfast and then went to the bathroom with Daddy to wash up.

When we were done with our breakfast, Daddy dropped Ryan and me off at our house so I could feed the baby while he drove around with the boys and found this bulldozer. He let them check it out while waiting for us to finish Ryan's mid-morning snack.
When we were finished, I called Daddy to come pick us up and we headed to Gymboree as a family. Sunday was also its fifth anniversary, and they were having a party/open house to celebrate. When I got the email announcing it, I thought "perfect!" The first stop was the Manheim Township fire truck that was outside to explore. A fire man demonstrated how they get into all their gear, which adds about 100 pounds to each man before they go into fight fires. The boys both gave the firemen a high five.
Next, they climbed into the back of a police car as we said hello to one of the owners who was outside. The boys declined coloring a puppet or getting their faces painted. They were ready to head inside!
We celebrated Joshua's 2nd and 3rd birthdays at Gymboree, so he thought this party was for him (only with friends we didn't know). It was perfect! He was having a blast. The place was PACKED - more full than I've ever seen it before. But, they had a really great time playing and climbing. Joshua's favorite activity was climbing up an area with "steps" and then jumping off into these inner tubes. He was really good at landing right in the circle no matter where they were (and Caleb also enjoyed and did well with this activity, too!).

They also enjoyed climbing and sliding around.

The boys were having a blast, and we highly enjoyed watching them!
Soon enough it was time for bubbles! The boys LOVED this!
Then it was "parachute time" where we sang songs, they played with maracas and then got to go under the parachute.

After this favorite parachute time, we went to their back party room and the other owner scooped the boys some Maggi Moos ice cream. Joshua chose chocolate and Caleb chose Cotton Candy since it was blue.
After they finished their ice cream, we let them play and run some more. It was great! Daddy sat off to the side with Ryan where he wouldn't get bumped. Ryan LOVED this little ball that had bumps all over it. I wish we had one - he was highly enjoying himself!
Eventually as more and more people came in (and we saw my friend Valerie and her kiddos as we were leaving), we decided to give the boys their five minute warning and continue on our adventure to have a great birthday for the Bean! We appreciated Gymboree having this super fun free family event on Joshua's birthday! More to come...
