Five Birthday - the Second Half!

After we left Gymboree, we dropped Daddy, Ryan and Caleb off at home. I grabbed a coupon that I had been emailed from Build-A-Bear, and Joshua & I headed to have one-on-one time at the Mall (courtesy of Daddy who said he thought the Bean would enjoy this activity more with just me than everyone coming along). We went and he first picked out "Coconut" which is Caleb's current teddy bear. I asked him to pick something else so they didn't confuse them. He picked "Fudge Pup" and away we went to get him stuffed. The gal asked him to step on the button to stuff him.
Then she asked him to pick out a heart. He was to jump up and down to get the heart started. Then he put it on his forehead to impart wisdom, put it next to his heart to give him love, put it on his nose so that the pup would always 'know' him, rub it together to give it warmth, etc. Joshua did everything she asked him to do.

When he hugged the pup, he said he was "just right" so she put the heart in and stitched him up. Then we went to the fluffing/bathing station.

This time, Joshua took the hose and really pretended that water was spraying out everywhere and washing his beloved pup.

Then he combed his hair, just like we comb Joshua's hair when he's done with his bath/shower.
Since we already had an outfit at home from Mamaw, we decided just to go print out Fudge Pup's birth certificate. On it, Joshua had to name him. His name? "Birfday" with an "f" sound. Love it! Joshua is in love with "Birfday" and has him in his bed now. We payed "Birfday" (which came to $7 with my coupon and I used a Park City gift card I had been given for my birthday).
Then Joshua carried him in his dog house out to the car. On the way out, Joshua asked if we could look in a toy store. I said "sure." He picked out more things for Santa to buy him, including an alligator and iguana. :)
Then we headed home. The boys ate a little lunch with Shawn while I fed the baby and then went to bed for a nap. When they woke up, we gave Joshua our gifts to him. Here he is with his new dinosaur activity book.
And he picked out this pack of dinosaurs from the dollar store:
Our bigger gift to him was a "Poin-go" book where it will read to him the words as he points the wand over the story. It also will ask him questions and activities. We found this at Olly's on clearance and thought it would be a neat gift. Joshua seems to enjoy it!
Joshua also got a new soccer ball, which was $1.50 from Kmart. He loves soccer!
After he was done opening his presents, we were off again! This time we went and got milkshakes for his birthday dinner. They are a favorite of his! We also got him chicken nuggets and french fries, which is what he asked for.
Then we headed to Stauffer's Park for something different. The boys loved playing outside on the playground!
I sat with Ryan for a little while on the bench. He's such a good baby and so easygoing!
We saw another kid demonstrate this bulldozer contraption, and the boys had to give it a try. They weren't quite strong enough without Daddy's help, but they loved digging up the mulch!

Then they wanted to swing. First Caleb tried to help push Joshua, which we thought was super cute. Then I pushed the Bean while Daddy took a picture (after all, I had been camera girl most of the day) and then Daddy helped push the swinging kiddos until it was time to go since it was getting chilly out.

You'll notice that Joshua picked out his own outfit, and it says "winner." He felt like a big winner that day! Caleb would tell everyone that it was Joshie's birthday!
When we got home, I suggested we have "family game night" with some of Joshua's new games. Shawn agreed, and we all had a blast. We played "Guess Who" twice, and I think the Bean truly got the concept of it.
Next, we played Mater "Trouble" and both boys understood this one right away. Joshua kept forgetting to not count the space he was on, so Shawn taught him to start counting at zero. It worked!
Then, we got into jammies and told Joshua that snack time included birthday treats. We gave him a cupcake with a candle and sang to him once again.
This is the first year he really understood blowing out birthday candles, and we loved his face!
Daddy had bought Joshua a little bag of Oreos since they are his favorite, and he also gave him those as well. (You'll notice the "Piston Cup" from his buddy Kyler in these photos as he loves to drink out of it!). I was unsure about giving the Bean so much sugar right before bed, but I guess birthdays only come around once a year! Live it up!
Both boys (and us parents!) were tired from a long day of fun and play. It was a great day. Happy birthday, my little Joshua Bean! I'm so glad you're the "Big Number 5!" Please don't grow up on me too quickly...
