Caleb's two-year well-baby check-up was Monday, July 12, exactly two years after his original due date. We saw Dr. Haught at Roseville Pediatrics at 9:30 am. His stats are as follows:
Height: 35.38" - 76.46%
Weight: 28 lbs 4 oz - 53.51%
Head Circumference: 19.25" - 56.28%
Dr. Haught explained that through their statistical model, taking into account the height of both parents, they predict that our sons would be 5' 10" tall when they grow up. Since Caleb is tracking taller than average, he'll most likely be above that. It will be interesting to see some day if they're right (and if I remember this prediction...). He also explained that these percentages aren't like school percentages - you don't necessarily want your child to be at 100% for everything but a nice average number is normal. So, he's right around average for weight and taller than he is heavy.
The pediatrician & I discussed Caleb's development, and he seems right on track. He said going diaper-less is good for awhile to get the idea of potty training. That said, it's okay to take a break and start again if we're not having success right now. We talked about discipline and time out, how children should not watch more than an hour of TV per day, how meal times are important part of family life, etc. I also asked about Caleb's skin and was told to rub him down in Crisco and put an old sleeper on him (like one we'd buy at a yard sale) and let him sleep in it. That has the same ingredients as some high-end dermatology creams on the market. He also noted that when Caleb's older and can tolerate a dermatology appointment, it may be worth sending him. But, it's not uncommon that baby's and toddler's struggle with dry skin that they often will grow out of.
While we were there waiting for the doctor to come, Joshua got out the abacus that was in the room. There were two groups of ten of all colors. Both boys counted to 20 together. Then when Joshua moved on to his little 'computer' that teaches letters that we brought from home, Caleb started counting by himself. He then told me each color on the abacus and got every single one right. He did it enough times that I realize he knows his basic colors down pat - yellow, red, blue and green. I asked him again this morning, and while he didn't get purple and pink right, he got the basic colors correct. So, I know we can expand now. He's gotten yellow correct for a long time, but there were times that he would mix the other ones up. I'd say we've moved beyond that point now.
Caleb got one shot while he was there - some new vaccine that just came out for a different strand of virus that can kill kids. And they said that they are now doing 2 /12 year well-check visits, which is also a recent change. Joshua only had a well check-up at 2 and 3 years old. But, he was in the office in between when he was sick. Caleb is not often sick, so I'm glad that they'll see him in six months to confirm that he's still on track and progressing well.
The pictures in this post were taken by our friends at the fireworks. I have more pictures she emailed me that will make it to the blog hopefully at some point. :)
