Yesterday, Joshua weighed in at 22.4 lbs, up an entire pound from last time he was there. Hooray! He also was very good for Dr. Devenyi, giving him a high five and smiling even when Dr. D was listening to him.
Dr. Devenyi said that since Joshua is doing well on the Prevacid, it's time to do another surgery. What??? Actually, we kind of knew this was coming. If Joshua's taking his reflux medicine and doing well, then this surgery should show no signs of inflammation in his esophagus if he was accurately diagnosed. However, since Joshua's eosinophil count was 17 last time (and 15-20 is considered the 'gray' area of "is it reflux or is it allergies?"), he wants to confirm that his esophagus looks good. If it doesn't or there are still eosinophils, then the problem is not reflux, the medicine is not the way to go, and we would have to go through extensive allergy testing to see what's going on.
The surgery is scheduled for February 5, Grandma Ginder's birthday. Our follow-up appointment to find the results is February 13. Please pray for the Bean that this surgery goes as well or better than last time!
