My Good Boys

There are days that being a mom is so much fun...This morning I got the boys dressed and ready but I have time to relax in my nightgown before showering...I'm glad I didn't have to rush off to work! This morning I've gotten smiles from two little boys who were anxious to be held by me. :) :) :) That's worth far more than a measely paycheck!Yesterday when the boys napped, so did I. I slept hard, too. Poor Shawn hasn't had a good night's sleep (much like me) in weeks, but he hasn't been able to nap since he's at work.Last night we were watching football as a family (well, I was doing my Bible study homework, but Shawn would 'replay' parts that he wanted me to see). Caleb was propped up on my knee, completely enthralled by the game. He reminds me of Shawn so much. Joshua is much more like me. He likes to be in the same room because he loves his Daddy so much, but he could care less about TV and was playing with his new train set from Aunt Jen's family. He is also extremely stubborn and emotional, and yet so fun to be around with his personality. Shawn tells me all the time how much this little boy reminds him of me. I agree. Joshua makes Shawn smile constantly. :)I never had the burning desire to have children when I was little. I always knew I wanted to get married and have a family, but I was the one that struggled to get baby doll clothes on the dolls. I liked being cared for and couldn't imagine myself caring for others. Yet, I adore both my boys and wouldn't trade them for the world. There are moments that we miss having extra money and nice things that don't get destroyed. In the end, though, money and things won't matter. These two (and any children we add to our brood down the road) will be our legacy. They weren't too sure about me snapping pictures all morning, but I got a few good ones. And I got several terrible ones... I love both my little blue-eyed boys so much...I'm looking forward to spending time with them both today!Hope you have a great day, too!

And this will be your sign

These are the images I had taken of Joshua at JC Penny's for his two-year birthday. I think they turned out great! He started out pretty scared, but the guy working invited his co-worker to join him and take pictures while he worked at making the Bean smile. The guy tossed a football at Joshua, and he caught it and she snapped the picture! I'm impressed by Joshua's althetic ability. He loves to play hockey with Daddy in our driveway, and he won't settle for a little kids stick. Oh, no...he has to have a big stick like his precious Dad. But, he's getting better with his aim at hitting the ball. Grandma got him a better batter ball set, and he loves to swing at the ball that dangles for him. He's already better than I am!Over the weekend, Joshua noticed that Daddy sleeps without a shirt. So, he insisted that he didn't need a shirt for naps or bedtime. I told Daddy that we need to get him excited to wear big boy underpants so Joshua will be more interested in potty training. Since our first success story, he has refused to go again.I took in Joshua's beloved blankey for the photo shoot since JC Penny's suggested a comfort item. They said that age 2 is the toughest for pictures because children are often scared. But, I also appreciated getting some shots of him and his blanket since he does love it so much at this age. My favorite thing that he says right now is a soft & loving, "Oh, blankey!" Grandma Ginder & I were talking about why Joshua seems to have so much fear. I talked to my mom about it last night, too, and she said she remembers my nieces being fearful at this age. Once she said it, I remembered too. They learned bible verses about God protecting them and the song "God is bigger than the boogey man." So, I guess it's normal enough as their brains start comprehending more. I think a good amount of fear is okay (that's what keeps us from jumping off roof-tops, etc.) but I don't want him to fear every little thing. Please pray for him! This past questionnaire for tracking from Early Intervention showed Joshua slightly behind in his personal-social skills and his fine motor skills. The gal called yesterday and is sending us some information on things we can do to improve those scores. Honestly, I think both of those things are my fault in not showing him how to do things or giving him the freedom... for example, they want him to be able to drink from a regular cup. I wonder why when there's these awesome things called sippy cups that don't spill... But, I want him to learn things on time so that he's not behind. I'm hoping to go to Wal-mart tonight and pick up a few things to do some crafts and learning activities. It's difficult with Caleb, too, but I know we can make it work if I am determined.Today we met Daddy for lunch to take him some throat drops. When we were about to leave, I explained to Joshua that Blankey can no longer come outside, and that he needs to put blankey back and tell him 'bye-bye' and then we can go to the car. He thought about it for a minute, said "bye-bye, blankey...see you soon..." and then he put his blankey on the couch near the door for safe keeping. While we would have had a fit if I would have just taken the blanket and put it away, I'm slowly learning that explaining things to Joshua and appealing to his intellect is starting to get me much further. And, boy is he sharp! He's also stubborn...wonder where he gets that from!Last night, we went to a lifegroup link at church. With trying a new church that's so large, we knew we would not get plugged in unless we joined a home group, small group, or in this case a "life group." I prayed before we went, asking God to show us the right folks and put us in a group that was right for us. I had liked the two gals so much from Bible study that I asked Him to put us with them and if we saw them there it would be a sign. However, in saying that, when we got there, you were to 'mingle' with folks within your school district, and I knew that neither one of them lived within our district. The first few folks we talked to were...awkward at best. They were at different stages of life, and no one really wanted to chat. Finally, we introduced ourselves to another couple who had on their tag "Married, With Kids, Manheim Township." They were really nice, and his name was Don. Soon another couple joined us and they and they have a 3-year-old and a 7-month-old, and his name was John. He pointed out that we were the "Don-John-Shawn" team, and we all laughed. We continued walking around to try and meet other folks as instructed, but when it was time to sit at a table, we ran into these two other couples again and agreed that the "Don-John-Shawn" team should sit together and be in a life group. For the rest of the evening, they asked questions and we responded around the table to try and get to know one another. There was a single guy that clung to Shawn (he always attracts people that are a little different! Hmmm...I wonder what that says about me!) that sat at the table too. Then there was another couple, and his name was Josh. They were leaders of a current life group looking to add one other couple to their group. When a gal in charge came up to our table (and I'm guessing there were well over 500-1,000 people there at different tables from different school districts), she asked how we wanted to be broken up. Don's wife said that we wanted to stick together as the "Don-John-Shawn" team, so Josh decided to invite us all to their house to join the other couples that were all part of their life group. This makes for a large group (normally they just want three couples in a lifegroup to start), but I'm interested in seeing how it works out. As Josh's wife was talking, she was telling us about the other couples...the two gals that I had liked so much from Bible study were in their small group. I couldn't even believe it! We hadn't tried to sit with them, I didn't see them there, and yet God gave me a sign that we were on the right track. Now, I'd be fine if we eventually split off as the "Don-John-Shawn" team if this life group is too big, but isn't God neat in how He works? We don't have to worry about planning; He takes care of us. We had a really fun night out, and most of the folks' kids were around 2-years-old. We're going to be meeting for the first time this Sunday, bringing the kids along. Please pray for us! When I went to get Caleb last night, once again the gal told me that he was the best baby in the entire nursery. Oh, my little love bug! Mommy is so proud of you for being such a good boy!Yesterday morning, Grandma treated us out to breakfast at Eat 'n Park. We had a nice time. Friday night, my car got inspected. And, after spending $1,500, we should have two safe vehicles (I needed tires and breaks, and Shawn's tires are all but bald so we ordered his, too). This figure literally made me feel sick to my stomach, but I know God provides for us. I've seen it over and over again - we simply trust in Him. Well, I must quit blogging to finish dinner. We're going to try ham & scalloped potatoes again, made differently this time. I'm hoping they're good!

Joshua Highlights

Joshua...just saying his name makes me smile, and shake my head. He keeps us laughing and on our toes all at the same time! On Saturday morning, he played the 'ABC' song on his Phonics Radio, and Shawn & I were literally shocked when he started to sing along. He said over half the alphabet at the right time. The song we've been singing lately is "this little light of mine" and I LOVE how he does the hand motions along with it!
On Saturday, it poured so we decided to stay home the entire day. When Shawn was out re-organizing the garage, he opened the door for the fresh air. Before he knew it, Joshua was running out in the downpour, yelling in delight, "ALL WET!" That night when he came in, Daddy gave him a bath, and he was "swimming" the entire time. It was cute to listen to. I also bathed Caleb that evening.
Joshua has had his cousin Daniel on the brain for some reason. He has been asking about him, and I didn't think too much about it at first. But then he said "and Emma" to let me know that he really meant that he wanted to see Daniel. When we passed Aunt Jen's house today, he said "More Jen...More Daniel!" And last night when Grandma watched him so Shawn & I could go to a LifeGroup Link, they sang "Yes, Jesus Loves..." and filled in different names, often coming back to Dan-man. I'm glad he loves his cousin. It's neat-o that they should be in school together.
Yesterday, Joshua joined me as I was playing piano. He does this often, but it is heartwarming everytime he climbs up with me. He loves it! This morning while I was trying to ride the exercise bike, well, that was a different story. He loves the bike, but it doesn't work out too well when he tries to climb on along.
Last night as I was feeding Caleb, Joshua climbed up onto the couch with me (we were watching the end of the Redskins game that we had recorded with our TiVo). Then he asked Daddy for an animal cracker. Shawn tossed one at him, and it hit the Bean in the forehead. Joshua cracked up. He laughed so hard that we joined in. He's so funny!

God Glorified Through Our Kids

Yesterday, Caleb held out his hand while he was eating. Joshua came right up to us and proclaimed "FIVE!" as he tried to give Caleb a 'high five.' While I quickly reminded Joshua that he should only touch his brother's toes, I was amused. Joshua just loves his little brother "b-wuke." Yesterday, Joshua cracked us up in the car when he cried out "Uh-oh! Tooters!" Uh-oh is right, my dear. Yesterday Joshua & I sang "This little light of mine" and he's starting to do the hand motions. He also sang "Jesus Loves Me" by himself to me while we were rocking. When he's feeling under the weather, he becomes my little cuddle bug again. :) We read all his new birthday books (thanks Grandma, Nonie & Poppy, and Miss Suzy!) yesterday, too. He pointed to the pumpkin in the touch 'n feel book Suz got him (which he LOVES!) and said "punkin" and when I pronounced it again, he slowly and carefully said 'PUMP-kin.' I love fall! Caleb's new accomplishment? He slept through the night! The night before last it was Joshua who woke him up when he came into our room. We need to work on getting him to stay in his own room, but I hate to do that when he's so wheezy. There was a guy that died of asthma when I was in high school, and I think about that every night I put the Bean to bed. I know God will keep him safe, but I want to be available to him if he really needs help. After all, my kids are way more important to me than a little shut eye. Last night, however, Joshua's disruption of our sleep didn't wake Caleb at all. He woke up at 7 am to eat after his last feeding being at 11 pm. WOOHOO!!! Way to go, big guy!I'm so proud of both my kids. But, I take no credit for how amazing they are. Yesterday especially I felt like I deserved the worst mom of the year award. Last night as I was doing my homework for Bible study (which I highly recommend the "Breaking Free" Bible study! I'm learning so much!), I was reading about how pride inhibits us from glorifying God or allowing God's glory to shine through our lives. Pride can sneak up in us in a number of areas, and I realized that I'm guilty of this dreadful sin. There is no good in me except that which God provides...may He be the one who is glorified through us! He is the one who makes my children so great - they are His alone. I am honored that He would entrust such precious little lives to us, and most days I feel completely unworthy and incapable at such a job. He gives us grace, though, and helps keep them safe and on the right track. Here is a passage that I thought was particularly good in showing how amazing God is... thus, we have nothing to be proud about in and of ourselves:

Job 38
The LORD Speaks
1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the storm. He said:
2 "Who is this that darkens my counsel
with words without knowledge?
3 Brace yourself like a man;
I will question you,
and you shall answer me.
4 "Where were you when I laid the earth's foundation?
Tell me, if you understand.
5 Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know!
Who stretched a measuring line across it?
6 On what were its footings set,
or who laid its cornerstone-
7 while the morning stars sang together
and all the angels [
a] shouted for joy?
8 "Who shut up the sea behind doors
when it burst forth from the womb,
9 when I made the clouds its garment
and wrapped it in thick darkness,
10 when I fixed limits for it
and set its doors and bars in place,
11 when I said, 'This far you may come and no farther;
here is where your proud waves halt'?
12 "Have you ever given orders to the morning,
or shown the dawn its place,
13 that it might take the earth by the edges
and shake the wicked out of it?
14 The earth takes shape like clay under a seal;
its features stand out like those of a garment.
15 The wicked are denied their light,
and their upraised arm is broken.
16 "Have you journeyed to the springs of the sea
or walked in the recesses of the deep?
17 Have the gates of death been shown to you?
Have you seen the gates of the shadow of death [
b] ?
18 Have you comprehended the vast expanses of the earth?
Tell me, if you know all this.
19 "What is the way to the abode of light?
And where does darkness reside?
20 Can you take them to their places?
Do you know the paths to their dwellings?
21 Surely you know, for you were already born!
You have lived so many years!
22 "Have you entered the storehouses of the snow
or seen the storehouses of the hail,
23 which I reserve for times of trouble,
for days of war and battle?
24 What is the way to the place where the lightning is dispersed,
or the place where the east winds are scattered over the earth?
25 Who cuts a channel for the torrents of rain,
and a path for the thunderstorm,
26 to water a land where no man lives,
a desert with no one in it,
27 to satisfy a desolate wasteland
and make it sprout with grass?
28 Does the rain have a father?
Who fathers the drops of dew?
29 From whose womb comes the ice?
Who gives birth to the frost from the heavens
30 when the waters become hard as stone,
when the surface of the deep is frozen?
31 "Can you bind the beautiful [
c] Pleiades?
Can you loose the cords of Orion?
32 Can you bring forth the constellations in their seasons [
d]
or lead out the Bear [
e] with its cubs?
33 Do you know the laws of the heavens?
Can you set up God's [
f] dominion over the earth?
34 "Can you raise your voice to the clouds
and cover yourself with a flood of water?
35 Do you send the lightning bolts on their way?
Do they report to you, 'Here we are'?
36 Who endowed the heart [
g] with wisdom
or gave understanding to the mind [
h] ?
37 Who has the wisdom to count the clouds?
Who can tip over the water jars of the heavens
38 when the dust becomes hard
and the clods of earth stick together?
39 "Do you hunt the prey for the lioness
and satisfy the hunger of the lions
40 when they crouch in their dens
or lie in wait in a thicket?
41 Who provides food for the raven
when its young cry out to God
and wander about for lack of food?
God is so amazing and so great, He alone is worthy of honor, glory and praise. Another verse I've pondered is: 1 Corinthians 10:31 "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." WOW! That's tough, but amazing truth. The first week of the study, we learned about Israel's captivity under the kings of Judah during Isaiah's time. During that week, I learned especially that our actions have such a profound impact on our children. The next week, we learned about the five benefits God has for us to lead an abundant life here on earth. Now, each day we're looking at obstacles to those benefits. We're thoroughly dissecting the Word in this study, and I'm enjoying every minute of my time with the Lord. I praise God for my family and what He's doing in our lives. May He be glorified!

Pumpin' Up

Joshua was back at the doctor's office yesterday. While Dr. Ammons does not think he has pneumonia (thank God!) since he hasn't had a fever, she does think his lungs should sound a whole lot better than they do. Thus, he's on an oral steroid and one that he will inhale with his nebulizer breathing treatments. Within a few days, his lungs should be stronger. Please pray for him, as I remember that they told me steroids can make him irritable and aggressive. So far, so good, though. Also pray that Caleb doesn't get any type of sickness and that the Bean feels way better ASAP! He looks fine but he just keeps wheezing, which is scary...

Ready to Go!

On Friday morning, Joshua had his two-year well check-up with Dr. Ammons. His stats were the following:

Height: 34.75" (55%)
Weight: 26 lbs 9 oz (30%)
Head Circumference: 19.25" (55%)

She also heard him wheezing and recommended breathing treatments (although she said other kids should be fine around him and said it was still okay to have the party). I'm also going to give him vitamins daily since he doesn't eat much, and I'm going to look for a pediatric dentist to check all his pearly whites. He's got a new recent addition to his teeth - one two-year molar has pushed through. Only three more to go! Everything else seemed normal, but because of his asthma, he didn't get the flu shot and we'll go back in October for it.This morning then, he had his follow-up appointment with Dr. Devenyi for his reflux. Dr. Devenyi's office said his weight was relatively close to Friday's assessment (he was 26 lbs 1 oz), but the height was way different. They had him at 39.75" - I doubt he grew four inches over the weekend, but I wonder which one is right and which one is wrong. Dr. Devenyi said that this put him in the 85th to 90th percentile for height. (So we just discovered he's tall!) They are going to keep him on the prevacid through the winter - especially since he has reactive airway disorder - and they'll see him back in six months to see how he's doing.Dr. Devenyi scared me, though, in listening to his breathing, he said his right lung sounds wheezy and 'crackly.' He asked me if he had pneumonia. No! Then he said that he should be seen by the pediatrician again within a week to make sure that his lungs sound okay. I called immediately, and we're going back in tomorrow. Why wait a week? Please pray for the Bean!Joshua is so adorable and has said some pretty funny things lately. While I can't write about all of them, here are a few that amused us this weekend. He loves to snuggle with us in bed (ugh) which we've tried to put an end to but allowed on his birthday. So, when Shawn put him to bed Sunday night, we came back up and found him all cozied in between our pillows waiting for us. Silly Bean!

One of our neighbors gave us "Wally the Whale," and this little pool filled up with water the last time it rained. Yesterday before Daddy dumped it, we noticed leaves floating in it and Joshua kept telling us he saw "fish" in his pool. We cracked up! We've been giving him breathing treatments for his wheezing, and yesterday morning he told us that the mask was "stinky" after smelling it. He also saw the bumbo and proclaimed "potty!" (and, horrified, I tried to explain to him with little success that this little purple seat is NOT a potty). The list goes on and on. The connections he makes are hysterical. On Sunday morning, Daddy went to get a shower while I was feeding the baby. Normally, Joshua excitedly follows to watch Daddy put in his shampoo (which Joshua mimicks to the T, rubbing his hands together first and then wildly thrusting it through his hair). However, on Sunday, Shawn showered alone. When Caleb was finished on one side, I decided to go look for the Bean, and oh, did I find him. He had gotten his stool out of his bedroom, taken it into the office, climbed up to the desk and gotten my camera that we had taken pictures with all weekend. He was happily snapping away! I scolded him for having the camera, but I didn't realize he had taken pictures until I downloaded other ones today. There were a ton from this little guy, and the above picture is a demonstration of the quality we got. Notice not only his finger, but he was caught red-handed by his hair peaking through the top of the photo. He wasn't doing one of his favorite activities because he took the opportunity to do something he would normally not be allowed to do - he is really testing our boundaries right now. But, he knew the second I walked in the door to put down the camera. Oh, my little boy! Sometimes you just have to laugh; others, you just have to walk him to the time-out mat. :) :) :)

Little Caleb Luke

I think Caleb is changing looks by the day. He is such a precious little boy! On Thursday when I went to Bible study, the one gal told me that he was the best baby in the entire room. (Please pray, if you think of it, for more nursery workers. I'm really debating on whether or not to go back because of the lack of help, even though I'm learning a ton...) Then Saturday night at church, he slept the entire time and again the women oohed and awwed at how cute he was and how nicely he slept even amidst the wails of the other children. Caleb is so easy going and always has a smile close to his lips. I think he started laughing this weekend. He squeels with delight and gibbers away with all sorts of noises that make me smile. He also blows bubbles a lot.

When Caleb was at the doctor on 9/10/08 for his two month well-check, his stats were the following:

Weight: 12 lbs 6 oz (70%) Length: 24 in (65%) Head Circumference: 15.5 in (35%) My little Caleb Luke is a big fellow! :)

A Happy Two-Year Birthday Party!

We decided to have Joshua's birthday party at Gymboree of Lancaster this year. I saw this activity center for children ages 0-5 on an episode of Jon & Kate + 8, and when we went to check it out, the Bean LOVED it! Joshua had a great time! His cold symptoms didn't seem to bother him one bit - he played and played with his family and friends. All the kids were running and climbing and jumping and having a blast! We arrived first, and Julie & Dan, along with their kiddos Jude & Kate arrived next. Joshua immediately tried to get Julie into the action by putting a hoola-hoop on her. She returned the favor. :)Walking in the door with them was Kristen & her son Elliott. Julie, Kristen & I worked together at Masterpiece Marketing. Our boys are all close in age, and they had two daughters that are near the age of Caleb.Next Jasmine & Austin arrived! Jasmine is on the worship team at LHOP, and Austin was born a month after Joshua. We sit with them in the back of the church and the boys share their snacks and toys with each other. This small group started off by playing basketball.Next arrived Brian, Gayle, Grant & Jenavieve followed closely by my sister Jen, Mike, Grace, Faith, Emma & Daniel along with my Mom. Grandma Good came right around there, and so did my sister Becky. Shortly thereafter was our family friend Mary & her son Brayden followed by Nonie & Poppy, Aunt Alicia & Jordon, and my friend Suzanne. I don't think I missed anyone! The Gymboree folks were thrilled that everyone was on time and remembered their socks!Nonie & Poppy held Caleb and got him to sleep, which let me have a great time taking photos and enjoying the guests and kiddos! Grandma & Aunt Alicia also took turns holding our little love bug.The first game was the circle game. Joshua didn't want to join in because he was having so much fun climbing on the equipment and saying "hi" to everyone! The babies hung out in the "barn" - the theme for the day was 'Barnyard Friends.' For the most part, though, the kids just played and had fun. Here are some action shots...The next organized event was the log roll. Joshua watched a few times before climbing on...He LOVED all the stuff to play on at Gymboree. And everytime they announced that the party was for him, he lit up, grinned from ear-to-ear and clapped heartily. They asked for everyone to find a duck and bring it back to the pond. The kids started looking all over the room for the little ducks.Next they put things together to make a long tube. Here comes Brayden! After awhile, it was parachute time! They sing and play on top of and under the parachute. They sang to Joshua & got out the bubbles - a favorite Gymboree treat. Those bubbles were fantastic and didn't easily pop, allowing all the kids to enjoy them. After parachute & bubble time, it was time to eat cake and sing happy birthday! The children got to sit in their own little seats and wear hats. It was adorable. When they came out, they sang "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" with maracas. I think 99% of the kids really enjoyed those little noise makers!

I think both the kids and the adults had fun at the party. I know Joshua truly enjoyed himself, and Shawn & I were thrilled at the turnout and how well the party went. I thought watching the kids was especially neat-o burrit-o. Each child got a hand stamp and a gift bag as they left. We came home and opened Joshua's presents, and he began playing right away. With all the sugar from the cake, there was no nap (in fact he said, "no sleeping!" to us...ugh!!!). We ended the evening by going to church instead. Thanks to everyone who came to the party and made it a special day for the Bean!

Happy Birthday!

Happy 2nd birthday, Joshua! Two years ago today, we had the pleasure of welcoming you into the world. I can't believe how much you've grown in two years! Your Daddy & I feel so blessed to have you in our lives.
Joshua's party will be on Saturday, but we tried to also give him a special day today. Tonight we went to the park as a family. Joshua is enjoying some cookies - what he asked for all day.
He also got to see a puppy! He loooves "woof woof's."
Today was a beautiful day - upper 70s and sunshine... the perfect birthday weather!
Happy birthday, Bean! More Pictures to follow...

Birthday Fun

This morning Joshua woke up with a cough, which we're praying goes away. I think he's just feeling run down from the trip. Instead of taking him to Bible study, I dropped him off to play with his cousins at Aunt Jen's house. He was so excited! He said, "Hi, Aunt Jen!" as we pulled up to her driveway.
I picked him up and we ate pizza for lunch (he ate very little) and his favorite, "fLench flies." After I fed Caleb, it was time for naps. Joshua crawled in bed with me and we snuggled during his naptime - I think that was even more of a treat for him than his lunch.
When he woke up, we played with Caleb beside us. Joshua knows the difference between an oval and circle, and he enjoyed putting his shapes in the sorter. He also enjoyed doing patty cake and would say it along with me. He kept asking for the "quack quack" song, which I must ask Nonie to teach me so I can sing it to him. I made up a "night night" song about his blankey, and he LOVES it and also asks for it constantly.
When Daddy got home, we all went to the park, he opened his gift from us, and we played a little while until it was bed time. We read his favorite "Kiss Good Night" book as usual (I play the role of Sam the Bear and Momma Bear and Daddy narrates). Joshua has started saying parts of it, too, like making the wind noises and the rain noises and points to his chin and toes at the right parts before the book mentions it, etc. It's interesting how much he's learned in two short years! More birthday stories to come!

Celebrating Joshua's First Two Years of Life

The Second Year

The First Year

My Little Two Year Old

Two years have gone by already...some days it seems like Joshua is MUCH older than two. Other days, it feels like I've blinked and the first two years have passed. I remember his first smiles, the first time he laughed, the first time he rolled over, the first time he ate solid food, when he started to crawl, when he started to walk, when he started to walk down stairs, when he started to really speak and so many other firsts. Yet, so many things are quickly forgotten as he changes and grows into the little boy God has destined him to be. He is speaking in more two-to-three word "sentences" these days. The other day he came in and said "Hi, Mommy, Dad-da, Baby!" and was looking at pictures with us and said "Is this Ma-maw, is this Pa-paw, is this Air-ca?" Whenever he sees the sun, he says "hot!" even if it's chilly out. I think he means "bright." He loves the "goose" or garage door opener, and I finally figured out that the reason he calls it that is because I say "there it GOES" and he repeats "goose." Now, when Shawn & I need the garage door opener, we call it the goose.
Joshua makes me laugh on a daily basis. He is definitely an emotional kid, wearing his emotions on his sleeve. When he's happy, the entire world seems to sing. When he's sad, our hearts break. When he's angry, we feel upset. There is nothing better than his giggle. And, I love it when he talks and sings. These are moments that I treasure. He still wants "up" and to be held, too, which at times with Caleb makes me struggle. But, I still love it because I love him so very much.
Joshua is very much Daddy's boy. He loves to wrestle and loves to be around Daddy, helping him in whatever way he can. Daddy loves his oldest son so much...the bond between them is so special. But, there are still moments like tonight where Joshua asks for Mommy to put him to bed or rock him. These are moments that melt my heart. He is truly a caring little boy.
Joshua, I am thrilled to have you in our family. I'm learning so much through the "Breaking Free" Bible study, and one thing I've seen over and over again is how much parents influence their children, even to the point of being held captive later in life. My prayer is that you would be set free from these things even now...that God would make us holy parents and that you would be dedicated to him always. May you always walk in His ways, medidate on His word, love His laws, obey His commands, and experience true joy and fullness of life. We love you so much and want what's best for you! Happy 2nd birthday, my little love!

The Little Drummer Boy

Since Joshua likes music so much, we got him a drum set for his birthday. So far, he seems to love it!
Enjoy the video! Great is HIS faithfulness in the life of our son!

Brothers Celebrate Bean's Birthday

Joshua loves his little brother, and he makes Caleb smile all the time. I think Caleb started genuinely laughing today. Joshua says to him, "Hi, Buddy" and because I say "Caleb Luke" to the baby all the time, he now calls his brother "a-wuke!" Caleb was 'talking' away today and had A LOT to say. Joshua laughed and laughed. Then he'd say "hi!" and Caleb would grin at him. It was soooo neat to watch. At one point I had both boys on my lap laughing smiling away at each other. Thank you, God, for blessing our home with such amazing children!

My Sweetheart...

Loosely borrowing from a line in Sarah Palin's speech...

Eight years and two kids later, and he's still my guy...

The Incredible Journey - Day One

Realizing that our trip to Florida was filled with so many wonderful memories, I'll have to post about it in segments to try and capture even a few. But, first of all, I want to express my utmost thanks to the Ginder family for their generosity & hospitality - we had a wonderful time! There aren't a lot of vacations that are "fun" to do with young children, but Shawn & I both had a blast. And, the boys did, too! Thanks for welcoming us into your sunshine state. :)On Friday morning, Caleb woke up around 4ish to eat and I decided to stay up rather than go back to sleep for less than an hour after he was done. We packed two suitcases (one with lots of outfits for the kids and their essentials and one for us), our laptop bag with the laptop and my Bible and homework things (along with videos for the Bean for the airplane), and a diaper bag stocked to the max. We also had the stroller, snuggli, puppy and Joshua's beloved blankey...
We got to the airport with no problems, got through security just fine, and we had better-than-we-could-have-expected-or-hoped-for flights both ways. The back half of the plane was literally empty, and we sat in the very back. Both kids did extremely well - no crying or fussing at all. We kept our things with us below our feet and still had lots of leg room. Plus, the seats on Soutwest are VERY comfortable. One the the gals at the airport said this is the best time of year to fly because kids are back in school and the holidays haven't started. Hooray! I also learned (for the other moms out there reading my blog) that only one lap child is typically allowed per row because there are only four face masks and three seats. But, since there wasn't anyone around us on either flight we could all sit together. Next time, I'll know to pack two diaper bags 'in case.'
Once we landed (early) at Fort Myers, I changed the boys diapers and they were already calling our names to grab our luggage since the airport is small and the flight was light. Grandma & Grandpa were waiting there and Joshua ran right up to them. He started saying "Grandpa" and "Erica" this trip (in fact, riding home last night, he kept saying "bye-bye, Auntie...bye-bye, Erica" in a sad little voice. And this morning he asked me about Grandma when we got in the car since she sat next to him in the van much of the trip). Our first stop was lunch - we were starving! We went straight to Harpoon Harry's, which looked right out onto the water. It was BEAUTIFUL! The food and company were also a nice treat. :)From there, we went back to the hotel to settle in. The room was PERFECT! We had two large firm beds with lots of fluffy pillows, a microwave and fridge, a 32" TV (not that we ever watched it), a nice comfortable chair and lots of space to spread out. There were waters in the fridge and diapers on the desk waiting for us. Shawn's parents were VERY thoughtful. We didn't need a thing. Even breakfast was served daily next door to us with a delicious spread. We didn't take advantage of the pool or exercise room, though. No time! (And let's be honest, no energy!)The bathrooms had granite countertops, too. The first thing Joshua did when we got to the room? He jumped into the tub! Our bathtub is too deep for him to be able to crawl into, but this was the perfect size. The poor kid never did get a bath down there, though, because we were spent 'til we got back to the room each night. That first night we tried naps with no success, so we called and the mini-van "limo" driver came back to pick us up and take us to see their new house, which was absolutely beautiful. I loved the open floor plan and the lanai with the pool. I can't believe we didn't get any real pictures of it. I wasn't quick with the camera this vacation, though. Most of these shots were taken by the Ginders or Shawn. The first night we had delicious sandwiches and snacks for supper and enjoyed swimming. Joshua, who previously this year hadn't liked getting into pools, got right in with no fear. He was a regular old fish, going from person to person and asking about the "turtle" or "quack quack" (you can see it in the picture below). After watching a little video with Grandpa and enjoying some dessert, we headed back to crash in the hotel. We started out Daddy & Mommy in one bed, Caleb in the crib, and Joshua in the other bed. Soon, with Caleb waking up often, it became Mommy & Caleb in one bed and Joshua & Daddy in the other. It was a great first day!

Florida Trip - Day Two

On Saturday morning, after eating breakfast at the hotel we called for our escort service. :) From there we headed to Gasparilla Island to look at how the "other half" lives in their waterfront estates. We got out on the beach there to see where the fresh water meets the ocean saltwater. It was just beautiful. You couldn't have asked for nicer weater. Shawn found his first ever seashell there. I couldn't believe all the conch shells just laying around! From there we headed to see Erica's work and then we went out to lunch at Sugar & Spice in Sarasota. It's good ol' mennonite cooking (delicious!) with amazing meadow tea. On the way home, we looked at more mansions at Casey Key. These gi-normous houses were right on the gulf, with the beach right in their backyard. Shawn & I looked up Michael Sanders real estate, and the first house we saw was over $18 million, to give you an idea of the type of homes.I rode back to the house with Erica and got to see her neat little white car. From there more swimming was in order and then it was soon time to head back to the hotel. Grandma & Grandpa prayed that we'd get more sleep since the night before had been a little rough. This time, Daddy & Mommy stayed in the same bed all night and Joshua slept like a log in his bed (waking up only once to say 'hi' to me and make sure Daddy was still there). Caleb didn't wake up. It was 4 am and he still hadn't gotten up to eat. So, I let him go. At 5 am, I couldn't take it any more, so I woke him up. He ate a little and fell back to sleep. We slept in until 8 am that morning. I couldn't believe it! It was sooo refreshing!Day two was also a lot of fun, and we couldn't believe our vacation was half way through already!

Picture Sunshine & Fresh Fruit - Day Three

Sunday started with refreshing sleep and a wonderful breakfast at the hotel. This time, Aunt Erica (or Air-ca, as Bean lovingly called her) had off the entire day. We started by going to a park right on the Peace River. Joshua had a BLAST! Since the other days he had been somewhat couped up with traveling, this was his day to RUN in the SUN! Here he is playing with the train...All aboard! Choo-choo!Joshua even made a little friend while we were playing in the park...Grandma & I stayed cool by sitting in the shade with Caleb, who we tried hard to keep out of the sun. Joshua was lathered in sunscreen, and Caleb sat in the stroller.
Meanwhile Joshua was giggling with delight on all the slides...
And, there was fun to be had on the see-saw!Grandpa spotted parakeets living in the wild in these trees. (All I spotted were ants & dragon flies!)Grandma & Grandpa enjoyed seeing Joshua play.Next, we headed to the sea shell factory, where there were also fun things to do. Grandma sat in the "Garden of Eden" with all the stuffed animal "wildlife." There was even an elephant's head!
I missed seeing the Bean on this chair (which I heard was a hoot). I was out nursing Caleb in the sweltering van. Soon, I couldn't take the heat, and I brought him into the restrooms to finish up. They were quite lovely - we had lots of new firsts for eating on the trip. When I found them, they were playing games. Joshua won a car with all his tickets that he just loves!
The cutest was watching him play with this popcorn machine. You're supposed to catch the balls of popcorn in your bucket. He just loved this one!Outside he got to feed super huge fish and a plethora of sea turtles. It was really neat!Grandma cooked us an amazing supper that night, which included delicious fresh Florida fruit...strawberries, watermelon, peaches, canteloupe, grapes, etc. YUM!
We left to see the sunset from there...pictures to follow. Soon Day 3 came to a close...time flies quickly when you're having fun!

Sad to Say Goodbye - Day Four

We left around 7ish on Sunday night to try and catch the sunset at the end of the pier. (We had went to the pier the first day on the other side, I forgot to mention, and it was interesting to watch people fish and catch their bait!). We got to Venice Beach just as the sun was dipping toward the water. Erica offered to stay in the car with the sleeping boys, and Shawn & I sprinted toward the sunset, along with Grandma & Grandpa. We saw it set on the way to the jetty. But, both Shawn & I said this was one of the best parts of our trip. We walked hand in hand and saw lots of other couples enjoying the view. One was a couple that looked to be in their 80s or 90s in lawn chairs, holding an older-than-time radio which was playing oldies music. They were cuddled up in a blanket holding hands listening to music. How neat! I pray we're like that couple - always in love. We watched as people continued to fish and others spotted dolphins and manatees. We also got some neat pictures. That night, the Ginder family dropped us off at the room and played with the kiddos (swimming had been done earlier in the day before dinner). Caleb cooed and smiled at Grandma & Grandpa.
Joshua had a fun time playing with Erica and Grandpa, too. The room was filled with laughter.
Monday morning, we packed our things, checked out and headed to Bob Evans for a big hearty breakfast. Afterward, us gals went shopping at Bells, a department store in their mall that was having a big sale, while the boys played in the playground in the center of the mall. We headed back to their house to grab our stuff, and they took us to the airport. Once again the boys did well on the plane, and we were happy to have had a safe, fun trip. Hopefully we'll be able to do even more next time we come down! Thanks again, Grandma & Grandpa Ginder, for the fun times and memories!

Breaking Free

Yesterday morning, I attended a women's Bible study at LCBC that I actually really liked right off the bat. They're doing the 11-week Beth Moore study called "Breaking Free." While I've never done a Beth Moore study, from my past couple experiences at trying out other mom's groups, I wasn't sure what to expect and had almost lost hope. However, I just happened to walk in at the same exact time with two other gals who had girls Joshua's age (or God is the King of coincidences). One of them also had a four-year-old and the other was expecting her second. The 'organizers' weren't sure where to check-in children, so they told us to wait at the top of the stairs while they figured out a good system. I waited with them and they showed me where to take the kiddos. Since Joshua cried when I left him and I tried to console him, I lagged behind the other ladies. However, when I walked into the room, the one gal came over and invited me to sit at their table. There was well over 100 women in the room, so it was nice to connect with someone. Unfortunately, the two gals and their friends (who all seemed nice) were in a different group than mine, but I emailed the coordinator and asked to change that.

The funny thing is, there's another Valerie Good that goes to LCBC. So, their computer system has gone buck wild mixing our two records. I'm always asked if I'm married to Carl or Shawn, and the other day a women called and asked me who Jessica was. Then I remembered! Jessica Good was one of my nurses at Women's & Babies Hospital. She came in and told me that Valerie Good was her mom, so she'd take extra special care of me and laughed. I think Jessica was older than me, so I imagine this other Valerie is MUCH older than me. Thus, my group had a LOT of older women...not really what I was hoping for. But, the coordinator called me back and said no problem and once again asked me for my address, phone number, email and which people belonged in my household vs. the other Valerie Good. Ugh! I think this is about the fourth time I've gotten such a call.

People aside, the Bible study itself looks like it will be very interesting and powerful. Beth Moore gives homework almost daily where you dig into scripture and really look at the meaning of each and every verse. I did the first day yesterday, and I was impressed. God's word is so alive and so amazing! I'm anxious to "break free."

On Tuesday, I'm going to try the MOPS group there (Mothers of Preschoolers). The women I enjoyed meeting also attend that group, and they meet every other week. So, we'll see how that goes!

In the meantime, please pray for Joshua that he enjoys playing with other children and the workers. It seemed to me that there weren't enough workers for the sheer volume of children that were in the room. So, to have someone upset (or several children who were highly upset) would be rattling at best. Joshua seems to calm down when we leave, but I saw several moms get pulled out of the Bible study to come get their kiddos from his room. When I picked him up, he seemed utterly terrified. (Caleb, on the other hand, was sleeping in a baby swing and happy as a clam.) They announced that they're looking for more childcare workers and pay them for the two hours of the Bible study, but it didn't seem to be enough to me to make someone want to drive there. I realize, though, that it's a ministry that allows moms like me the chance to get out and get involved in a Bible study. Please pray for more workers and that Joshua would settle into a routine of going and actually look forward to playing with friends... and pray that Caleb continues to do well in the nursery, too.

Thank you, God, for providing this opportunity! Now, since it's the crack of dawn (actually, it's long before the crack of dawn...even the sun is still sleeping), I must start getting ready for our trip to Florida. Hooray!

Flying to Florida

Grandma & Grandpa Ginder and Aunt Erica, are you ready to see "Bean the Builder?"
We just booked a last-minute flight to head down to Florida to visit the Ginder Family. We leave Friday morning and are coming back Monday night, and we're looking forward to it! Now, I must quit blogging and go pack for my little construction worker (who insists on wearing this hat backwards) and my little C-Love (as Shawn calls Caleb).

A Well Baby

Today was Caleb's two-month well check-up. He weighs a whopping 12.5 pounds and is in the 75th percentile for weight and height. We don't have to wake him up in between feedings if he sleeps, which is super! He actually slept almost seven hours from the start of his last feeding to the start of his next one last night (now if I would have only gone to sleep when he did...). The doctor said he is the epitome of a healthy baby and called him "perfect" over and over again.

This time he also got four vaccines, and if I can at all help it, I'm going to try and make sure Joshua doesn't come the next time he gets shots. I had put Joshua back in the stroller with a toy and tried to distract him, but he watched as the nurse gave Caleb his shots. Caleb screamed, of course, (something I really haven't heard too much before) and Joshua cried. It wasn't his "I'm having a fit" cry but more one of pure sadness. He asked about the baby and pointed and big tears rolled down his cheeks. The nurse tried to explain that the shots are so Caleb doesn't get sick, but Joshua continued with the wet cheeks, not saying a word or making a noise. Finally the nurse gave him an animal cracker. Poor boys! Caleb went right to sleep after I held him, got him dressed and we went home.

Joshua also did a super job for the most part at the visit. While we were waiting, I was frantically trying to think of something to occupy his time since toys no longer capture his interest for long and there were tons of machines in our room with a note that said "Please don't let your child touch anything" (uggghhh!!!). So, I started singing, "If you're happy and you know it..." and I made up TONS of verses. "If you're happy and you know it...stomp your feet" (his absolute favorite), "touch your nose...nod your head...take a bow...rub your hair (where he said "shampoo!!!")...clap your hands...point your fingers...wave bye-bye...pat your back...pinch your cheeks...wiggle your ears...stick out your tongue...pull on your lip...tap your knees...sit down..." and on and on. But, to my pleasure, the game worked. Joshua loved the different verses and would over and over again ask to stomp his feet. You can tell we were waiting awhile because I did his "feet" in between each verse. But, he didn't have any sort of fit and did well until the doctor came in, when he wanted to be held, etc. But, he still was good overall. Whew!

I'm so thrilled that Caleb is considered a "well baby!" It's always impressive as a mom to hear your child is doing well and growing on schedule, etc. Hooray for Caleb!

All Wet!

Yesterday was the first day of the one mom's group I wanted to try. Again, I was unimpressed (to say the least). I am trying another one this coming Tuesday, and since they meet at the same time, if this one is at all better, I'll probably stick with it. Please God, let there be one that we like! Joshua cried the whole time in his class, which is unusual for him. (He also woke up at 4 am that morning for some reason and couldn't seem to get back to sleep.) So, I won't completely write it off without trying again sometime, but I'm not sold on that group either. On a side note, the nursery workers said Caleb was an angel...typical for him! I'm so blessed by how easygoing he is.We were absolutely soaked on the way there. It poured and poured and stormed yesterday morning. Joshua was wearing his froggy rain coat, and kept telling me he was "all wet" and asking for a towel. Then when we passed a farm near my mom's house, he asked "where moo cows?" because they weren't out in the rain. I was impressed that he knew they were typically there and weren't on this particular morning.Yesterday afternoon, Aunt Missy came over to play. Joshua loved spending time with her. He told her some of the pictures in his one book and we laughed at some of the adorable pronunciations. She also called Grandma & Grandpa Ginder and long after she left, he continued to say "I'll get you!" on occasion, especially when Shawn & I would giggle. He loves to be a ham! Thanks for coming to play, Aunt Missy!

Happy 2-month birthday, Caleb!

Caleb has stolen my heart...he is such a precious little boy. He smiles and coos all the time. Even the nursery worker at church told me just how much he has to say! His smile lights up his whole face (and ours!). Caleb often goes through multiple outfits in a day (enough said!). I constantly change his diaper, but he still manages to get me neaerly daily. Last week, we had been in five different outfits before Daddy came home from work. I'm becoming a laundry machine! Each day I see Caleb getting stronger. He doesn't like to lay down as much as he likes to be propped looking around. He loves the swing and the bouncy seat now that it's more upright, and he loves to be held close. But, he'll push up on his arms when he's near your chest to try and look at your face...we are impressed by how strong he is already! He's also adorable. I used to think he looked exactly like Joshua, but each day his looks change more and more to become his own little person. He has huge blue eyes, and I love his little cheeks. Most of all, we're enjoying the dynamic he brings to our family. We talk about the "boys" now and how much Joshua enjoys his brother already. We also are thrilled with how easygoing Caleb is. He rarely cries and is usually pretty content just to be held. The other night he went six hours in between feedings! I'm going to check with the pediatrician to make sure that's okay. But, I really needed the sleep, so I was so glad. This past Friday night, we put him in his crib in the nursery for the first time. I'm happy to say that he hasn't slept in his pack 'n play in our room since. This transition was probably harder for me than for him since I now have to walk to go get him when he's hungry, but it's better for all of us, including Daddy, me and Caleb. Saturday night when Caleb cried as I was changing his diaper, Joshua tiptoed over to the nursery to make sure everything was okay. I jumped a mile! He said, "Baby okay?" I replied "yes" and that he should go back to bed. I scooped him up and he said 'night night...see you morning!' and that was it. I love my two boys!Happy two-month birthday, Caleb! We're glad God blessed us with you!

Has a Decade Really Gone By?

Tonight we took the boys to church, and again they did great! It had poured all day long...I think the effects of Hurricane Gustav. We needed the rain. Afterward, we decided to stop in at my high school reunion. At first it was supposed to be an "organized" event with a reserved room and appetizers, etc. but not enough people responded, so it ended up being a "show up if you can" at the Cove, which used to be the East of Eden Pub. I debated about whether to go or not, but Grandma said she would gladly watch the boys even though it was a later event, and her friend Connie came with her. So, we decided to go and figured if nothing else we would eat dinner together as a couple without our precious kiddos. We were one of the first ones to arrive and sat next to Brenda, who organized the event, at the bar. The place was pretty well empty, and we ordered our food and diet sodas. Pretty soon Duane Thomas showed up. He said that he and his wife just found out they are expecting their first child. Not long thereafter, Kevin Hershey and Neal Rice entered. Kevin now lives in NY, working for...I think it was IBM? Neal just got back to Lancaster three weeks ago after serving in the military in Iraq. Soon Kirsten Backhouse and her husband came. She's working for her dad in his restaurant and bar. More folks trickled in the hour or so we were there, but no one else I really "knew." I was the only one with children so far out of the people there; most of them weren't even married yet. That sort of made sense for the venue. And, I think the weather helped make for a very small turnout, which disappointed Brenda after she put a lot of work into trying to organize it. Either way, I enjoyed time out with my husband and getting to see the folks who did show up. But, after an hour and a half, it was time to go rescue my mom (who didn't really need rescuing by sounds) and feed Caleb who was sucking fiercely on his hands when we arrived. Congrats, CV Class of '98!

The Itsy Bitsy Spider

Go Big Bucks!

Joshua pointed to all the 'motorized vehicles' in his books and calls them by name. He said 'car,' 'boat,' 'choo-choo,' 'AIRPLANE!' and then "buck" for "truck." I'm glad that's what he calls them, too, because I've heard truck's mispronounced much worse!
Yesterday, Joshua said "Ma-maw?" then thought about it and said "Ma-maw at work!" When we got into the car to pick up my friend Jen for work, he said "french fries...I so funny!" remembering that he cracked us up days before with that very expression. He's a little sponge these days.
Joshua remembers more songs than just "Jesus Loves Me," too. Yesterday he said "More helper song?" Nonie had watched the boys the day before while I got ready and left for school, and she sings him the 'helper' song. I asked, "what helper song?" and he instantly replied "Nonie!" So, I sang the two or three lines I remembered, and he jumped right in. Mom said to me that she thinks he's going to be really super sharp like Faith, which I took as a huge compliment. I think he's smart, too.
This post is also titled "Go Big Bucks!" because last night we went to a football game at my alma-mater, Conestoga Valley where the Buckskins were unfortunately crushed by the visiting team. We were invited to go by my friend Jen and met up with her & her husband Ryan (pictured below - you'd never know she had brain surgery just a few short months ago!), her parents Jim & Julie Waldron (who I just love and have looked up to since I was young) and her twin sister Jess & her husband Tim and their three girls. Jess is having her fourth child, a son, this coming Friday. While we were at the game, we dropped Joshua off to play with Emma at Grandma's house. He had much more fun that way than walking through the crowds or trying to sit still on the bleachers. Caleb, on the other hand, was an angel as I wore him in the snuggli. So, last night was his first ever football game! We had a fun time catching up before leaving at half-time since it was time for Caleb to eat. I can't believe it's been 10 years since I graduated! It doesn't feel like it's been that long, but everyone there did seem really young to me. So, I guess I'm getting old.

Play Date & Picnic at the Park

We were supposed to have a "Petting Zoo & Picnic at the Park" today with the Moms Club of Manheim Township. However, when we got to Long's Park, the petting zoo was closed for the season. I guess they had scheduled the event months ago and it got rained out, so they postponed it until today. We didn't mind! The kids just played on the nearby playground.
Molly, the organizer, was there with her two kids, Paige (age 2.5) and Joel (age 4). Her neighbor Stephanie also came with her daughter who just turned one (can't remember her name). And I went with Joshua & Caleb and that was it. Stephanie left early so her daughter could nap, but we stayed because Joshua was loving playing with Joel especially. He loved to climb and slide and kept up pretty well. Joel speaks really clearly and so does Paige, so I think the interaction was good for him. It's hard capturing good pictures when they're all on the go, so I didn't catch any of him with the other kids. Most of my pics from the day were blurry (should have grabbed my camera instead of Shawn's! I have better luck with it!).
After playing on the playground, we set up our blankets in the shade and enjoyed our packed lunches. I got to know Molly a little better, and her kids were so sweet. They shared their fruit snacks with Joshua, who thanked them. (Good boy!) Next week starts my mom's morning out on Tuesday's and the Beth Moore Bible study on Thursday's, so we'll see how that goes. There's also an apple picking event with the Mom's Club that I'll miss. I haven't decided if I'll keep going to the Mom's Club of Manheim Township or not, but I did enjoy hanging out with Molly and her kids. So, we'll see. I think as long as Joshua is having a good time and interacting with other kids, I'll do what I have to do!

Time for a New Toothbrush!

YES! Jesus Loves ME!

Yesterday morning I started singing "Jesus Loves Me" to Joshua, and to my surprise, he started singing along. He says "YES! ...a-wum-me!" "YES! ...a-wum-me..." After I sang it quite a few times, I started again when he requested "More Song Please!" So, I said "Jesus loves me..." and Joshua sang "I KNOW!" and then I said 'For the Bible tells me..." (and I paused). Sure enough, he said "SO!" And he sang right along, speaking the words "weak" and "strong" pretty clearly. But the best is when he sings the chorus.

Last night he sang it for Shawn. Then this morning he asked me to sing it again "More Song!" So, we began to sing. "Jesus Loves..." (and I paused waiting to hear if he would remember...). You know what he sang? "Bean!" "I know!" Then I sang "For the Bible Tells Me..." and he jumped in "So!" I sang "Little Ones to Him" and he jumped in "B'long" me again "They are..." and he sang "weak" and I said "But He is..." and Joshua threw his arms in the air with his muscles and said "STRONG!"

We continued to sing "Yes (repeat yes) Jesus Loves..." "BEAN!" "Yes, (yes) Jesus Loves... "BEAN!" "Yes, (yes) Jesus Loves... "BEAN!" "The Bible Tells Me..." "So!"

I agree, Jesus Loves the Bean. And so do I!

Bidding Summer Farewell

The other morning, I saw this in the playroom - I thought it was so sweet.

On Sunday afternoon, we headed to Gilbertsville to Shawn's Uncle Jim & Aunt Shari's house to picnic with the Good's. We had a nice time. Then on Labor Day, Shawn stayed home to mow the yard while I took the boys to my mom's house for a picnic with my sister Jen's family and her friend Mary's family, along with Mary's mother-in-law Connie who is my mom's good friend. All the picnic food was delicious, but I managed to gain a couple pounds, so I must watch what I eat!

On the way home Sunday night, Joshua said from the back seat, "She's so funny!" We cracked up! He is Mr. Repeat these days and so sweet.
He cracked us up again last night when he saw the golden arches of McDonald's near our house and said "French Fries!" Is he his Daddy's boy or what? When we laughed, he said "I so funny!" and we laughed even harder so he kept saying it. How cute that he says it in context!
Last night Shawn also gave the Bean a haircut, and I decorated the house for fall after doing some laundry and cleaning up a little. Farewell Summer, Welcome Fall! (Although, it's supposed to be in the upper 80's to low 90's this week, so summer won't feel like it's left us quite yet!)
