Kindergarten Open House

Tuesday, September 4, was Joshua's Kindergarten Open House (the first day of school for the rest of Manheim Township students). Mamaw came to watch Ryan, and I took Caleb to his first official day of preschool before we headed back to the elementary school. I snapped a picture of Joshua in his backpack filled with all his required school supplies that I had labeled, the letter to the teacher that she asked us to write, the pictures of Joshua & our family for the class photo album, and his inhaler and permission slip to give to the nurse.
Shawn had cut his hair again the night before because the top was a little too long and uneven from his free haircut. I thought he looked very handsome for his first day of school in his blue polo shirt that brings out the color of his eyes.
Shawn went to work that morning but came home just long enough to go to the Open House and see Joshua's classroom. When we got there at 9:30, the room was PACKED! Both the morning and afternoon classes were there, so we didn't really get to see much of his teacher. But, we followed the instructions. The first thing he did was hang up his backpack and find his name tag on his necklace to wear. Then, he found his name and put it in a pocket labeled "BOYS" which is how the teacher will take attendance every morning.
We also put his school supplies where they belonged, added his photos to the class photo album, and he was asked to draw a picture of himself and sign his name to it on the paper that said "ME on the first day of kindergarten." Mrs. Vogt also asked us to check out the "Star Student" board (which you'll see in the picture below). She posed for a picture with the Bean for us.
Then, Shawn went ahead and did the next part which was showing the bathrooms. If the sign says "STOP" don't go in. If the sign says "GO" you may enter, but first change the sign to "STOP" so no one joins you. They practiced and I could tell Joshua understood. We also checked out the library, the math center, the circle time mat and the other areas in the room. We completed the activities on the sheet, and then Shawn & Joshua explored the room some more.
I took a picture of Joshua & Daddy together at the Open House.
And Shawn took one of Joshua and me. How we love our oldest son and want him to do well in school! I'm sure he'll do great. He's a good kid.
Here was Joshua exploring the science center.
His favorite area was the little items beneath all these letter blocks. You'll see his bandaged elbow in this picture. Oh, my accident-prone Bean!
Joshua LOVES the knight in the school. He is super excited to be a Nitrauer knight!
Before we left, we snapped a picture of him in front of his new school. Then Daddy took just Joshua to get a chocolate milkshake as a special treat while I headed home to get Ryan and relieve Mamaw.
Since Joshua's Open House was only an hour long, he came with me to pick up Caleb from his first day of school. He got to give big hugs and say hello to his old teachers. :) :) :) It was a fun morning!
