You can see Ryan with a small pillow on the floor. He'd laugh at the commotion and crawl and cruise all around the room. There wasn't much he could get into on the floor, so we let him roam all over. He enjoyed it! He did not hit anyone with a pillow, nor did he get hit (of course).
Originally the plan was to leave Baltimore and head to Washington, DC, to go to the zoo again and check out some more of the museums. But, as we watched the weather forecast there was a heat advisory warning to keep small children and old people inside (and we qualify for both, right?). The temp was in the triple digits with the heat index going to shoot up to 115. The news said this was a record-breaking heat wave. We questioned the wisdom of having Ryan (let alone the other two boys!) outside either at the zoo or walking even between museums after we parked. We decided not to take any risks and hopefully return to DC in the fall when it's cooler.
We headed home then instead to continue with a birthday weekend theme for Caleb. Shawn mentioned about the air conditioning not working properly, mostly so they could fix it before the next family entered the room. But, the hotel offered to waive a portion of our parking fees for our 'inconvenience' and we were happy with that unexpected gift. The kids had loved swimming there, and we loved how close it was to everything. But, there is truly no place like home!
