Since we had come home early from vacation, we still had the chance to see Miss Saigon at the Fulton Theatre. My friend had emailed us about a deal for 50% off tickets, and we looked up the show times for the weekend. Mamaw agreed to watch the boys Saturday afternoon at our house so we could go. Shawn & I debated on which tickets to buy and opted for cheaper seats at the very front of the second-floor balcony which said that there was a "slight obstruction" for the view. I feared we'd be behind a column, but it was the part of the balcony that blocked our view. We were super glad we hadn't paid more for tickets for different seats on the second floor because we tried a few out at intermission (the show wasn't all that full) and they all had the same slight obstruction. We felt like we got good value for the money (we spent around $20 to see the show, total). I got to wear a dress and go to the theatre; and while this isn't something that Shawn would typically enjoy, he said he goes to these things because he loves me. Double blessing! :) :) :)
I thought the show was GREAT! The story of Miss Saigon was sad and heartwarming and probably all too true. It was about the Vietnam war and how a soldier had married a girl from the area but when his battalion cleared out at the communist takeover, he couldn't find her. He got married back in the states, but his first wife had conceived a child and they were living in poverty waiting for him to come back. When he discovered she still existed, he was already married to someone back home because it had been years later. It was sad.
Shawn was a little put off by the fact that all the words were sung, but we got used to it after awhile. I thought it was good overall and a fun, different kind of date. I love that my hubby will do new things and that we get to experience the theatre together. Thanks, Mamaw, for letting us go on a date on 7/7! :)
