Take Me Out to the Ball Game

On Friday, August 30, I asked both boys to change into baseball t-shirts (Joshua wearing a new one that I bought off the clearance rack of Gymboree and Caleb wearing Joshua's old one). They put on their baseball hats as well in preparation for the game.
We had tickets to see the Lancaster Barnstormers play from the kids' summer reading program. Aunt Jen gave us an extra ticket they weren't going to use (this was the last night to go) and we took Ryan's ticket along, too, just in case we could use them to get into the game for us adults. We had hired a babysitter to stay with Ryan since he doesn't really sit still. And we remember how BUSY those summer reading games were. We feared he'd wouldn't have fun or worse would get lost in the shuffle, so to speak.
Our Schnook was NOT too happy to be left behind, but I'm sure he had more fun at home than he would have at the game. When we arrived, I walked up to the "exchange" counter to trade our "coupons" for tickets. Shawn had walked the other way with the boys (rather than wait in line) and I was able to trade the kid tickets in for regular seats for all four of us. But, it wasn't a "cheap" game because we spent lots of money in snacks for the kids: popcorn, soft pretzels and drinks are expensive at a baseball game! But, it was all part of the experience.
Our tickets were technically for lawn seats. BUT, there were all sorts of open seats in the stands. Shawn said if I walked with the boys and acted like I knew what I was doing, we could probably sit down unless someone would come with tickets for those seats. I wasn't too sure. I don't like not following the rules. But, we did have our snacks and it would be nicer to be in actual seat... so I tried it. We walked down and filed in, and we sat there the whole game (okay, maybe not the whole game, but the whole time we were at the game). No one else sat anywhere close to us.
Caleb asked if we could take some pictures of the two of us sitting together. Sure!

I also took some of Joshua and Daddy sitting together. They didn't have to sit on our laps but they chose to at times. Joshua was much more interested in the actual game than his younger brother. Caleb asked if he would get the chance to play baseball while he was there. Hee hee.

The kids sat relatively still for awhile while we watched the pitcher throw the ball, the batter swing, the umpire make the calls, etc. After awhile, though, they started to stir. They asked about going to the playground, which at first we thought was for only 4 and under. But then we saw the "bigger kid" one as we were walking out. Whoops! We had missed it.

It had been several hours, and we decided that we had had enough baseball even though the game wasn't over yet. It was getting late, and we had Dutch Wonderland in the morning. The boys had seen at least the better part of a ball game, and we were going home to be with Ryan, too.
I liked this picture below of the three of them watching:
And I took my turn with Joshua while Daddy spent time with Caleb. He wanted his chance at silly pictures:

We'll have to watch the rest of our baseball on TV until the kids start playing in the spring!
