Ryan turned 26-months old on Wednesday, August 7. He smiles for pictures now with a great big cheesy grin. He doesn't stay there long, though, and gets distracted easily. So, capturing that cheese isn't always the easiest to do. But I think it's the sweetest little smile!
Ryan walks up and down the stairs without having to hold onto anything. I realize that sometimes the railings are out of his reach, so he has learned just to walk up and use his core strength to lift his legs. It's pretty impressive to watch, especially considering the height of the stairs in comparison to his height. He is a strong little boy!!!
As we're eating dinner, Ryan will say the prayers along with us. He also started to sing the ones we sing, and he sings LOUD! My quiet little buddy has gotten quite boisterous these days. Shawn says Ryan's turning out to be more like Joshua and me. While he started out extremely easygoing and relatively quiet (especially with that thumb!), he is quite talkative these days and not shy in the least. He will say "Hi!" to anyone we see and tell folks his name and age rather quickly when asked. One of our neighbors said that she thinks he has a pretty impressive vocabulary for his age. I'm around him all the time, so I don't always recognize what's "normal."
Ryan loves Elmo (not the other Sesame Street characters - just Elmo) and he loves Veggie Tales. He also is starting to enjoy the Letter Factory. But, his favorite movie is the Jungle Book. He doesn't sit for long, though, and would much rather play dinosaurs or puzzles. He will sometimes color, though. He also loves to throw and kick the ball, and he is constantly asking to play in our garage, just like his big brother.
Ryan loves to sit in our laps and read books, and he also enjoys "wrestling" with Daddy and his older brothers (which isn't really wrestling at all, but he doesn't know the difference).
My little buddy hates sitting so much that we even struggle to get him to sit still at the table for meals. He wants to wander off and eat on the go, which does not please me. We're debating about getting the high chair back in action or his booster seat to keep him strapped in. He likes to eat a bite, leave and go play and then come back for a little more and wander around some more.
Ryan still doesn't know his colors. He doesn't seem to grasp the concept quite yet. Shapes he knows. He will "read" to us from his books that he has memorized. He can count to 10 and sing songs. He seems so sharp and yet he doesn't recognize colors. I guess this will come with time.
Happy 26-month birthday, Ryan!
