My dear husband has been experiencing severe pain in his ankle for quite some time. At one point, he thought it went away, but it's back with a vengeance (add that to his chronic lower back, left foot and right knee injuries, and my poor hubby is in bad shape!). I called the Orthopedic Associates and scheduled an appointment for him for the morning of August 24 (since his grandma's funeral was that afternoon and he already had the day off work). The doctor took one look at it and said it was indeed "messed up" so Shawn went for an MRI on Friday, taking the latest appointment that they could give him. He got the results this past Wednesday morning.
He has a huge cyst (as big if not bigger than his ankle) near his ankle. The cause, from what I understand in reviewing a website, is: "Mild sprains or other repeated injuries can irritate and tear the thin membrane covering a tendon, causing fluid to leak into a sac called a ganglion." The issue isn't in his ankle but actually the foot (or heel) below it. But, the cyst over his ankle is stretching his ligaments, causing severe pain (and Shawn is one that can withstand a ton of pain so if I see him occasionally wincing, I know that it is serious). The Orthopedic Associates have informed us that Shawn needs surgery to fix the membrane, remove the cyst and fix the stretched tendons. He'll be out of commission for six weeks! Please pray that it goes well, that his body will heal, and that the boys & I can serve him while he's down & out and let him make a full recovery. Also pray that Shawn doesn't try to be 'heroic' and put off the surgery. I want him to feel better as quickly as possible!
